Cincinnati native soprano Julia Mendelsohn is an emerging artist with an innate passion for opera and musical theater. Julia has been a Studio Artist in multiple summer festivals all over the country including the Sherrill Milnes Voice Studio with the Savannah Voice Festival, the Manhattan School of Music Summer Voice Festival, and has performed with John Musto and William Bolcom as a Young-Artist with SongFest in Los Angeles. In 2008, Julia appeared as a soloist on National Public Radio’s program From The Top with host Christopher OʼReilly. Ms. Mendelsohn holds a Master’s Degree in Classical Voice from the Manhattan School of Music, where she performed Clarice in Haydn’s Il mondo della luna and created the title role of Matilda in Discover Opera!’s original production: Matilda, touring around New York City’s elementary schools. Julia received her Bachelor of Music from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where she performed the role of Muffin in the Ohio premier of William Bolcomʼs A Wedding and appeared in Leonard Bernsteinʼs Candide and Smetanaʼs The Bartered Bride with the Oberlin Opera Theater. Other credits include Mìmì (La Bohème), Gianetta (The Gondoliers), and Zerlina (Don Giovanni).  Julia currently resides in New York City, and is a student of Patricia McCaffrey. This year Julia has been selected as a 2015 Resident with the Opera Singers Initiative in New York City. This summer, Julia will be appearing in Turandot and Il Trovatore with the Cincinnati Opera.
